DUNDEE has always punched above its weight musically and it still has a thriving scene.  With a compact city centre, it’s possible to catch several excellent live bands on weekend nights, and all for free in venues such as Fat Sams LIve, Number 57, Dukes Corner, Beat Generator and Church Dundee.

The renowned Dundee Rep is a theatre and arts company which stages its own productions and also hosts visiting works including drama, musicals, contemporary and classical dance, children's theatre, comedy, jazz and opera. The Rep is located in Tay Square at the centre of the city's cultural quarter in the West End. 

Now in its fifth year, Almost Blue Festival at the beginning of July sees around 10,000 Blues and music fans descend on the cities pubs and clubs for a free festival of live music from bands from Dundee as well as visiting international musicians.

The 2016 weekend event saw over 100 performances in 30 venues. 

Dundee Jazz Festival takes place in November each year and see both local and international jazz artistes playing gigs in venues in the City Centre as well as more intimate venues in Broughty Ferry.

The 2016 event took place from 16-20 November 2016 with a programme of classic jazz, from swing to blues and funk.

Dundee has been the launchpad for great talent. Snow Patrol met at the University of Dundee, where the four-times platinum selling indie-rock band started off playing gigs at some of the famous local pubs.
